Born in the Georgian capital, Tbilisi, just south of Turkey, twenty-eight year old, Matiko Mamaladze and her family moved to Germany to find a better life. Once receiving green cards, she and her family moved to Northeast Philadelphia and eventually settled in Media, PA.
Matiko grew up in an artistic family surrounded by her mother and grandfather’s works. They were a source of inspiration and encouragement. She studied art at the Nikoladze Art School and the Academy of Fine Arts receiving her Master’s Degree in Fine Art studying under her grandfather’s students.
Her work is mostly figurative and romantic, focusing on capturing people as they would be in everyday life; sharing a table at a restaurant, a group of women buying from street vendors, a couple walking together along a narrow street at sunset. Her inspiration for paintings is based on mood, nature, people, seasons and day-to-day events.
