Most aptly described as a visual poet, Mimi Shapiro mixes trinkets and treasures, words and images, into a powerfully evocative body of work. Each piece conveys a sense of time and place as seen through the mind's eye of memory, combining reality and fantasy to create an amazingly cohesive vision.
Her work has been exhibited in the UK, Jamaica, Germany, New Zealand and many cities throughout the United States. A file on her work exists at the National Museum of Women in the Arts in D.C. In 2007, she won Best in Mixed Media in the Manhattan Arts International "Her Story" competition.
